4. Beyoncé from the Crazy in Love Music Video


Beyoncé's iconic looks in this video still turn heads and get people talking! You can choose either of these two looks and people will be able to identify you as Queen Bey almost immediately. Depending on outfit choice, you'll either need red stilettos, jean shorts and a white tank, or a colour-blocking neon orange, pink, and purple dress.

6. Kamala Harris, American Vice-President

What a historic year it has been, in more ways than one! In 2021, Kamala Harris became the first half Black, half Indian woman to be elected as the vice-president of the United States.

Whether you want to fly solo or go with your girlfriends, any member of TLC still remains a hot costume for 2021! The group holds many notable looks but if you are looking for one that's easily identifiable, you can try their look from their music video, No Scrubs.

8. Princess Tiana from The Princess and the Frog

Becoming the first Black Disney princess in the 2009 animated film, The Princess and the Frog, Princess Tiana served Black Girl Magic all the way around.
If you want to feel royal this Halloween and Princess Tiana is your style, you can purchase the full costume from your local Halloween store or find a similar colored/green ballgown. Don't forget your accessories!
9. Storm

Storm from the Marvel Comics and notably, X-Men, was one of the first black female comic book characters. Storm was played by Halle Berry in four of the X-Men films.
For this costume, you'll likely need a catsuit similar to the hers with a great cape. If you're trying to go all the way out, you better remember that icy white hair!
10. Destiny's Child



Another group costume idea is to go as the members of Destiny's Child. Whether you want to be Beyoncé, Kelly, or Michelle, choose your favorite video and get styling!
If you're blanking on options for video inspiration, try one of their looks from their Bootylicious or Survivor music videos. As the ladies all tend to have their own unique look, focus on getting the right colours or prints for the outfits and then customize from there!

This historical organization was first born out of the need to monitor the behaviour of the police by encouraging citizens to openly carry weapons for protection. You can create this look with pretty much any type of clothing, as long as it's black. If you want a more authentic feel, opt for a black leather jacket on top of your fit, black shades, and a slouchy black beret.
19. Solange's A Seat at the Table Album Cover

Solange's album, A Seat at the Table, did numbers when it first came out but OG fans of hers already knew what it was. Solange exudes expression, ease and good vibes. Her album cover was so memorable because it was artistic yet so simple.

Bernie is most known for the above scene where she finds out her husband has continued to be unfaithful and she is finally done with his mess. For her look during the infamous scene, choose a sleek black lace or lingerie top with black bottoms and a cream peacoat.
22. Hilary Banks from the show, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

No one played the role of Hilary Banks better than Karyn Parsons. The Banks were an affluent family with two successful Black parents; an image that was so important to Black America then and now. Some saw Hilary as spoiled especially since she was unapologetic about it. Ms. Banks showed us what it was like for a Black woman to live a life of luxury without having to go through immense hardship or pain.
We love to see it! For this costume, you can go with a classic pant suit (don't forget the shoulder pads!) or a semi-formal knee-length dress with a 90s vibe. To accessorize this costume, add a pearl necklace, earrings and a bowler hat.
23. Niobe from the movie, The Matrix

Niobe appeared in both sequels to the original Matrix film as a supporting character. Her most memorable look is the maroon crocodile jacket, a pant combo with shades, and her hair twisted into bantu knots. If you're unable to find that specific colour, opt for an all black leather look.
24. The Cheetah Girls

This girl group costume is perfect if you and your girlfriends are feeling nostalgic. The Cheetah Girls group stemmed from the hit Disney channel movie that followed four best friends in a singing group trying to make it to the top.
For this costume, make sure you and all of your friends are matching! A notable look from the movie is the one found above - different colored valour tracksuits with some form of cheetah print and matching cheetah headbands.
25. The Muses from the movie, Hercules

The five muses from Hercules represent beauty and grace. Named Calliope, Clio, Melpomene, Terpsichore, and Thalia, the muses functioned as a Greek Chorus that told the story of Hercules by singing the majority of the film. They also provided poetic inspiration and wisdom that all artists and thinkers sought.
For this costume think: Grecian goddess. Anything that's white/cream and draped on you will will suffice as long as it looks luxurious. Be sure to accessorize with bracelets and any type of head jewelry.
26. Lil Kim


Iconically known as "Queen Bee", Lil' Kim, real name Kimberly Denise Jones, is an American rapper, actress, model and reality television personality. There are so many looks from Lil' Kim that are recognizable so you have quite a few fits to pick from. A popular look of Lil' Kim's is her one-shouldered purple lace jumpsuit worn at the 1999 VMAs.
The look was controversial (and memorable!) because the other side of her jumpsuit exposed her chest and covered her breast with a piece of fabric. She completed the look with a metallic purple wig and looked BOMB! A second costume look can be pulled from the music video for Crush on You ft Lil Cease. Some looks had fur coats and others simply showed her in a stylish top.

27. Justice from the movie, Poetic Justice

Directed by the late John Singleton, Poetic Justice was released in 1993 and was Janet Jackson's movie acting debut. Poetic Justice had that 90s black love feel that came through the screen. If you want to go as Justice, opt for a dark navy or black shirt, blue jeans and a cabbie hat or a beret cap. Janet completes this look with her beautiful box braids.
If you want to turn this into a couple's costume, find your "Tupac" and have them rock a ball cap and baseball jersey shirt. If you're considering going as a group, have your girls each choose a powerpuff character to dress up as and save the world together!
33. Nakia from the movie, Black Panther

Nakia from the film, Black Panther, is a member of the War Dogs and T'Challa's lover. Nakia represented strength and courage as she worked with T'Challa and the rest of the team to save Wakanda and its treasures. This costume has been quite popular over the years so if you're interested, you can likely find the already made costume with accessories at your local costume store.
